There seems to be a great deal of debate as to which type of metabolic training is the best... Aerobic vs Anaerobic.

Ok, what is metabolic training?

What is all this aerobic vs anaerobic talk?

Metabolic training is conditioning exercises performed with the intention of increasing the capacity and efficiency of the energy pathways to store and deliver energy for activity.

The Cardio Body Building Fallacy

Most workout programs, in my opinion, are examples of cardio body building and are wrongly based on bodybuilder isolation movement exercises and marathoner extended aerobic training.

This is NOT the path to optimum fitness excellence!

The cardio body building combination is actually the biggest training mistake you can make.

Now before you get angry.

The Many Different Types of Strength

There are many different types of strength... and they all need to be taken into consideration when forming an effective physical training program.

What makes someone strong?

Well, that is not an easy question to answer... because it depends on which of the many different types of strength you are talking about.

Someone can exhibit great competence in one aspect of strength while being completely lacking in another.
Cardio Interval Training can help you reach new cardiorespiratory endurance levels, burn more calories, increase speed, improve power and generally improve over-all fitness performance.

Cardio Interval Training is a series, or repeated segments, of intense activity, alternated with periods of recovery that can be either reduced activity or complete inactivity.
With all the advice, workouts, methods and philosophies about strength, conditioning and fitness out there... How do you develop a physical training program that is right for you?

First of all, there are may reasons to get involved in a physical training program... and you must first determine yours is you are to choose correctly.

Some people's physical training program are targeted toward muscle growth, others toward burning fat, others toward gaining strength, others to meet general fitness goals, etc.

Exercise Benefits of Proper Physical Training

You want real strength, conditioning and fitness exercise benefits that can be applicable to everyday activity... Not ridiculous, absurd promises and fantastic, unbelievable claims.

You don't need me to tell you that there are physical and mental benefits associated with exercise and a healthy lifestyle... everybody knows that.

However, I do feel that there are so many faulty and misleading claims floating around the fitness industry that I should discuss the real exercise benefits you can expect to enjoy from proper physical training.

The 10 Physical Skills of Fitness Excellence

Train all 10 physical skills of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and toughness for physical fitness excellence... Not just one or two abilities creating unbalanced fitness performance.

Physical fitness excellence should be the goal of any physical training workout program.
When I look at the physical fitness industry today it is painfully obvious that the industry is more concerned with maximizing specific skills than building better humans.

Basically, the fitness industry has been divided into two fields... muscle growth and aerobic ability.

But make no mistake about it, physical training is about becoming an improved human, better suited to meet the challenges of sport, work and life with excellence under the greatest amount of circumstances.
It always amazes me that FITNESS is a multi-billion dollar industry... Yet a solid, concise and universal definition of fitness is hard to nail down.

Just ask someone participating in a physical fitness program, or even someone in the fitness industry for that matter, to give you a clear definition of fitness.

You will most likely be met with the "deer caught in the headlights" stare accompanied by nonsensical stammering.

Fitness Improvement Through Deliberate Variation

By varying the stresses, methods and intensities of your physical training you will continue performance improvement in the physical skills of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, power, speed, flexibility, balance, coordination, agility, accuracy and toughness needed for functional strength, superior conditioning and fitness excellence.

Why do we physically train?

Well, for most of us it is to bring about desirable performance improvements in the physical abilities needed to meet the challenges of sport, work and life with excellence.
